Alex Daniel Garza

4.10.1986 - 8.13.2023

Alex was born to Nancy Kluz and Josue S. Garza Sr. on April 10th, 1986 at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, CA. He passed away peacefully on August 13th, 2023 at his home in San Antonio, TX with his dad and his dog, Appa, by his side.

Alex was a soldier from birth. He was delivered 2 months prematurelyin an emergency c-section. Despite his challenging entrance into the world, Alex thrived and brought joy to all those around him with his big smile and gregarious nature.

Growing up, Alex found a lot of pride in taking care of his little sisters, shielding them from bullies at school and making sure they were always safe from harm. His sister Kelli jokingly reminded him that he also threw itchy bombs at them on the walk home from school and used them as target practice with his airsoft gun. He taught his sisters important skills, like how to make a helicopter noise with their mouth and the best way to make Top Ramen. His sister Jamie will remember him greeting her in his special way, “hey Weenie” and how he always made everything fun.

Alex was very sociable, handsome, and charming. His happy, high-pitched laugh was infectious. At school, the girls would line up to hug him as he got off the bus. His sisters’ friends would come over to hang out just to see Alex, hoping to get a glimpse of him with his shirt off. He loved every minute of it, walking around all puffed up thinking he was tough.

Since he was a little boy, Alex looked up to his older brothers. He shone with pride knowing he liked the same music as Josh and told tales of his older brothers’ experiences like they were superheroes. Now that Alex has passed, his brothers will tell others of his generosity and desire to help those in need, remembering him with equal pride and admiration.

Anyone who knew Alex knew that he had a loving nature and had enormous compassion for animals. When he was in kindergarten he got in trouble because he went back in the classroom during a fire drill to save a classroom pet lizard. It’s also no wonder that he had a special connection with dogs; the animals that symbolize loyalty, protection, and friendship, as he embodied these qualities himself.

His compassion extended to people as well. His mom remembers that while other little kids shied away from the elderly, Alex used to carry on conversations with them in the grocery store, recognizing their wisdom and humanity. He also worked alongside his dad, who is a respected mortician, caring for families’ loved ones. Alex was very proud of achieving his CDL and had worked in a full spectrum of professions from an ICE correctional officer, a Funeral Director Assistant, Industrial Material Transport and various trucking trades.

Alex was a protector and it manifested in many ways. Most notably was his service in the Cadet Corps at Littlerock High School and in the United States Marines. Being a Marine was a central piece of Alex’s identity. It allowed him to practice discipline, develop strength, and show loyalty to his country and brothers in arms.

But he wasn’t always so serious. Alex loved to laugh, spend time with friends, and generally enjoy life. He loved food and enjoyed concocting delicious meals in the kitchen. You could always find lemons, salt, and vinegar in his house. We all knew when he arrived as he bumped loud music from his vehicle for everyone to hear. Alex loved to reminisce on good times and laugh at movies like Major Payne, Secondhand Lions and Friday. He snuggled his pups and rewatched historical military miniseries, like The Pacific and Band of Brothers.

Alex was a soldier who faced arduous battles in his life. The tragic loss of two loves, Anna and Lori, burdened his heart. Separation from the family, whom he treasured and loved being in the presence of, wore down his spirit. Alex fought to carry on with a broken heart, but in the end, he had to lie his ineffective weapons down and rest.

Alex Daniel Garza will be forever remembered with the utmost love from all who knew him. He had a big, good heart. May he rest in eternal peace with Jesus and loved ones who welcomed him home where he can continue to look over us, as he did so faithfully in life.

He is survived by his mother Nancy (Daniel) Kluz and father Josue (Barbara) S. Garza Sr., special mom Marylee M. Garza, brothers Josh Jr. Garza, Joseph (Osiris) Garza, honored brother Hector Salazar, sisters Jamie (Jared) Dyson, Jennifer (Adam) Greve, twin sisters Jamie (Vince) Bowman and Kelli (Stephen) Haines, his took on sons Benjamin, Samuel and Gabriel Blowe, numerous uncles and aunts, cousins, beloved nieces and nephews, cherished companion Sandra Morales, and many neighbors and friends.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Puente & Sons for their guidance and support during this difficult time.

Alex requested that in lieu of flowers or decorations that donations be made in his honor to your charity of choice, e.g. The Wounded Warrior Project or local animal shelter
