Ángel Antonio Oscós Jurado was born to María de Jesús Jurado and Manuel Oscós Sotelo on May 25, 1925 in Tenancingo, Estado de México, México. On October 23, 2024 he entered eternal rest with our Lord. We will miss our beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather. We know that dad has left many memories in the hearts of all who knew him.
We celebrate dad’s life that began among family and friends in the small town of Tenancingo. He had fond memories of learning to read, write, and play the guitar. He loved swimming and playing soccer in the natural beauty of the area. He also enjoyed listening to baseball games on the radio. As a young man, he worked as a commercial truck driver and would eventually court our mother, Ana Rosalia. They were married in 1952 and had their first two children Ana and Rosario in Toluca, México. Soon after, the family moved to San Antonio, Texas where Dolores, María, Manuel, and José were born.
When he arrived in San Antonio dad faced the struggles of the Spanish-speaking Mexican immigrant and had trouble finding a steady job. He finally landed a job as a carpet layer at Hansen Bros. where he worked for many years. Later, he would learn to read printed maps of the streets of San Antonio to deliver medications all over the city for White Cross Pharmacy. When the pharmacy closed its doors, dad knew that he needed to work one more year before he could retire. Having knowledge about cars, parts, and the streets of San Antonio, Luna Automotive agreed to hire him. Dad repeatedly expressed how grateful he was to them for hiring him for that one year.
Dad valued connections to family, enjoyed travelling, and was very grateful to our Lord for his protection. Since 1955, he would eventually make nearly 40 trips back home to Tenancingo and his first stop was often to a church to give thanks. We were blessed to have safely made many of those trips with dad. As young children, we were privileged to accompany dad to many churches and to both the original and new Basílica de Guadalupe in Ciudad de México. We hold many treasured memories of the visits and outings with family and friends in Ciudad de México, Monterrey, Puebla, Tenancingo, and Toluca. During the last years that dad was able to spend in México, he was very happy to have had the opportunity to make numerous pilgrimages with family members in México. We are particularly pleased, that after retirement, dad was able to spend more time with and help care for his mom, our abuelita, during her final years.
Dad was quite creative and enjoyed capturing both the natural and man made beauty in the world. He usually had his camera in hand and was ready to snap a picture of everything he saw. Often he tried to recreate things that he had seen or to create things he had imagined. Dad always had projects to work on and he left some several unfinished projects on the front room table of his home.
