Anselmo “Sam” Rubio born July 12, 1941 to Santos and Juanita Rubio passed away February 6, 2012 surrounded by his family. Mr. Rubio was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Sanchez Rubio and sisters, Maria Saiz and Roberta Aguilar. As a child Sam attended grade school in Cline, Texas near present day Bracketville. He graduated from Leakey High School in Leakey, Texas in 1959 as class Valedictorian. He then attended San Antonio College (SAC) and graduated with a degree in business administration. Sam served six years in the Texas Air National Guard attached to the 149th fighter group. He was employed by and resided on the JM Ranch in Con Can, Texas since 1981 until the time of his death. He was an avid cyclist and rode in the MS 150 Bike Ride to the Beach for 18 years including Valero Alamo Ride to the River. His last ride was at the age of 68 in 2009. Sam is survived by five children to whom he was a wonderful and giving father, Samuel Rubio, Kirsten Williams, Paul Rubio of San Antonio, Michael Anthony Rodriguez of Katy, and Gloria Ann Rodriguez of Austin; grandchildren, Jewel Elizabeth Benrose Rubio, Mathew Jacob and Joshua Adam Escareno, and Keagan Haven; mother-in-law, Mrs. Aurora Sanchez and her three daughters, Gloria Lopez, Irene Ozuna, and Chris Robledo of San Antonio; brothers, Nicholas of San Antonio, Manuel, Jesus “Puck”, Pablo “Beatsie” of Leakey, Julian of Bandera, Artemio “Tim” of Lewiston, ID, Jabriel “Gabe” of Bismark, AR, George of Bulverde; and sister, Herminia “Minnie” Martinez of Ingram. Sam has many nieces, nephews cousins who loved and enjoyed him and will miss him deeply. Sam was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin. His “always willing to help” caring attitude and approach to life will be missed by family and friends.
Cemetery:
It was Sam’s wish to be cremated.
A Service of Remembrance is scheduled for Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, US Hwy 83 N, Leakey, Texas 78873 A Reception to follow will be announced.
