Arnold Allan Wallis

May 1, 1940 — March 10, 2022

Arnold Allan Wallis, 81, of Garden Ridge, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2022, at home surrounded by his family.
Arnold was born on May 1, 1940, to John Bradley Wallis and Helen Ruth Brown Wallis in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from Thomas A. Edison High School in 1959, he started his first job at Volkswagen Intercontinental Motor (1960-1970) as an automotive mechanic, quickly rising through the ranks as a Service Writer and Body Shop Manager. In 1963, Arnold married Linda Peak in San Antonio, and the couple went on to have two children, Michele and Duane.
In 1970, Arnold continued his career at Rod East Volkswagen as the Parts Manager, continuing a 47 year career in Automotive Service. In 2007, Arnold retired and spent his time enjoying his grandchildren, working in his garage and telling “tall stories”.
An active member of his community, Arnold was an Alderman during the incorporation in 1972 of the subdivision that became The City of Garden Ridge, which made it the first new town in Comal County in 127 years. Additionally, he was a founding member of the Lions Club of Garden Ridge and a life-time member of the Bracken Volunteer Fire Department.
Arnold was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life, and passed on his love for these hobbies to his family. He also “never met a tool he didn’t like” and was well regarded garage tinkerer creating imaginative bird feeders from common household items.
Arnold was predeceased by his parents, sister Catherine Jean Mays and daughter Annette Rodgers. He is survived by his wife Linda Wallis, his children Michele and husband Enrique Alvarez, Duane Wallis, grandchildren Tomas Alvarez, Cody Hyland and wife Jessi, Katelyn Wallis, Eric Alvarez, Ian Alvarez and great-granddaughter Lilianna Alvarez.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bracken Volunteer Fire Department at https://www.brackenvfd.org/donate/
