Bernice Crosby Jackson

Bernice Crosby Jackson, born April 12, 1951 to Ed and Annie Ruth Crosby in Brighton, Alabama passed from life to eternal life on January 20, 2019. Bernice, Bonnie to her friends and loved ones, was an amazing person who impacted the lives of everyone she encountered.

Bernice accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Macedonia Baptist Church is Bessemer, AL where at the age of 12 she was baptized. Her gown had marbles around the bottom of it to keep it from rising when she was submerged in the water. Bernice loved angels and surrounded herself with figurines and paintings of them. She was a strong believer in God and trusted His Word. She prayed regularly and ministered her faith simply by living.

After graduating high school, she met and fell in love with Carl Jackson, Sr. She moved to Detroit, MI in 1972 to pursue professional advancement. From this 24-year union was born Carlos Ty’Rone and Keisha La’Tise. Bernice continued her pursuit of professional advancement by obtaining her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Shaw College and her Master of Social Work from Wayne State University. She was a licensed clinical social worker for more than 40 years, which gave her the opportunity to help people every day.

Bernice leaves to cherish her legacy: one son-Carlos (Kim) Jackson, one daughter-Keisha (Jay) Gilmore, five granddaughters-Kori Jackson, Avery Jackson, Ryan Jackson, Drew Jackson and Kennedi Gilmore, two grandsons-Jalen and Joshua Gilmore; one sister-Dianne S. Marshall, five brothers-Edgar Crosby, (who preceded her in death) Ronald (Vanessa) Crosby, Robert (Mamie) Crosby, William (Carrie) Crosby and Tyrone (Susan) Crosby; five nieces-Dionne (Darius) Davidson, Chante (Dana) Crosby, Tamika Crosby Camille Crosby and Crystal Crosby; five nephews-Kalenzo Crosby, Dennis (Antwanett) Marshall Jr., Darrell (Rolandra) Marshall, Reginald Crosby and Tyrone (Shannon) Crosby Jr., special friend-Cynthia Smith and a host of other family and friends.
