Bobbie Jean (Simmons) Ashmore continued her journey with God at 3:50 p.m. on October 18, 2013 in her home surrounded by her children where she had lived the last 32 years.
She was born February 9, 1934 in at the home of Frank and Emily (Weaver) Simmons in Cedar County on a farm outside of Stockton, Missouri. She attended a one-room country school called Stoney Point and lost her mother when she was five years old. She was 79 when she won eternal victory over her battle with lung cancer. She fought courageously in order to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She married Donald Paul Ashmore on October 1, 1954 in Wichita, Kansas. She met her husband when they worked for Boeing manufacturing aircraft. She began working at H-E-B when she moved to Kerrville, Texas in 1970 and continued working for the company when they moved to San Antonio in 1980. She retired from H-E-B as a highly valued partner and was active with retiree activities.
She loved gardening and working in her beautiful yard until a couple of months before her passing. She demonstrated unconditional love to her family and friends and was always available to lend a helping hand. She was an accomplished cook and baker and her family will miss her breakfasts and holiday meals. She always ensured that her family came before her personal needs and desires. She loved watching sports and was a fan of the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and would be especially glad that her St. Louis Cardinals are in the World Series this year. She loved to play cards and games including Pinochle, Spades, Uno, SkipBo, Wahoo, and Chicken Foot with her children and grandchildren. She also loved going to church and especially loved the orchestra and choir singing old hymns and new songs of praise. She was an active participant in women’s Bible studies seeking a closer relationship with God. She especially loved taking care of young children and had a special gift caring for babies. She loved to travel and took trips all over the United States. She especially loved her two trips to Yellowstone National Park.
Her husband of 57 years preceded her in death on April 14, 2012. Survivors include her sons Mark W. Warner of San Antonio, Donald Ashmore, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Abilene, and Tim Ashmore of Spring Branch; and daughter Susan Ashmore of San Antonio; grandsons Shawn Ashmore and his wife Alison of Dallas, Kevin Ashmore and his wife Allison of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Brent Ashmore and his wife Natalie of Abilene; granddaughters Heather Ashmore of Berwick, Pennsylvania and April Ashmore of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two great grandsons Titus and Nathan Ashmore; her brothers James Simmons and Frances Simmons; sisters Loretta Jones, Peggy Weike, and Carolyn Simmons; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was also preceded in death by her parents Frank and Emily Simmons and her stepmother Mina Oehring Simmons; brothers Kenneth, Elvin (Bill), Harry Lee, (Louis) Jim, Charles, and Joe Simmons; sisters Aileen Simmons and Josephine Ragsdale; and her daughter-in-law Debbie (Moseley) Ashmore.
