Carolyn Ann Bertrand, 80, of San Antonio, Texas, went to be with our Heavenly Father on April 24, 2022, Divine Mercy Sunday, after a brief second battle with cancer.
Ann was born in Galveston, Texas, on September 24, 1941, to WJ Valigura and Agnes Munsch Valigura. After her father died in the 1947 Texas City Disaster, her mom moved the family to Port O’Connor, Texas. Ann grew up with her large extended family and attended school in Calhoun County. After her marriage took her to San Antonio, Texas, she became a single mother who lovingly raised her four children. She even suffered through her dislike of animals to help care for the ones her children would bring home. She supported her family with jobs at the Universal Bookbindery, Hamby’s Restaurant, Warehouse Grocery, and, finally, Walmart, where she worked for 30 years. After retirement, she enjoyed helping to raise her grandchildren and other special babies in her life. She rarely missed an event that involved her kids and grandkids, no matter how small. She was always up for any outing to which she was invited. She especially loved her “sister trips” and their card playing. Ann loved bluebonnets, dolphins, marching bands, puzzles, and spending time with her family and dear friends.
Ann passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family, and is survived by her children: Brigette Bertrand (Barry Stowers), Gina Bertrand Martin, Ray Bertrand (Joanne Bertrand), and Diane Bertrand Cullen (Daniel Cullen); and her beloved grandchildren: Kenneth Bertrand (AJ Marshall), Taylor Martin (Zane Williams), Kyle Bertrand (Alyssa West), Heather Cullen, Kristopher Bertrand, Kayla Bertrand, and Audrey Cullen. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Carolyn Valigura, and Carolyn and Stuart’s children Stacy, Rachel, and Gordon. Ann was also caretaker to many children throughout her life: including Phillip, Matthew, Clark, Sadie, and Julian.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents WJ and Agnes Valigura, her brother, Stuart Jay Valigura, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins.
