Chandler “Channye” Berry passed into her eternal life on October 13, 2021. She was born in San Antonio and is a descendant of the original Canary Islander colonists who founded the city. Her father was Chandler Yonge McClellan, her namesake, and Katherine Hernandez. Both preceded her in death, as did her brother Clayton Kamm and her husband of 45 years, David Leonard Berry.
She is survived by children Neva Ann Ward and her spouse Mark Ward, grandchildren Mark Douglas Ward and Alyssa Ann Ward; Katherine Berry Ponder and her spouse Clyde Ponder, grandchildren John William Ponder and Elizabeth Marie Ponder; David L Berry Jr and his spouse Stefany Berry, grandchildren Davis Lowell Berry and Emma Katherine Berry; identical twin sister Camille McHugh; brothers Frederick McClellan and CY McClellan; nieces and nephews including Kathleen McHugh Adair, Jim McHugh, Steve McHugh, Christine McHugh, and their children.
Channye was a teacher for many years in several schools, retiring from Samuel Clemens High School in Schertz, Texas. She and her twin were lifelong friends, even attending college together and sharing a home for the last several years. Channye traveled and lived with her Air Force spouse to five different states over 20 years. These years included many adventures like hiking in the Arizona desert, camping in Alaska, fishing in South Carolina swamps, and many more. She served others selflessly and rarely asked for anything for herself. Her legacy lives on through her family and her many students.
