Charlotte Ann "Denny" Koval, a woman loved by many, passed away on May 26, 2024, at The Mission, Blue Skies, in San Antonio, Texas. Denny lost the love of her life, her husband and friend of almost 70 years, on December 8, 2023. Denny is now reunited with her beloved husband, John Edward Koval. Denny was born in Missoula, Montana on June 20, 1934. Denny lost her mother, Hazel, at the age of thirteen and lived at Mooseheart in Mooseheart, Illinois, where she completed her education and received a scholarship to Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.
Denny was in her freshman year at college when she met John Edward Koval in 1954. John was in the United States Air Force and stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington. It was a relationship that would span almost 70 years! Denny and John were married on April 16, 1955 and had their only child, Anna Marie Koval, on June 25, 1956.
As a proud Air Force wife, Denny managed many homes as they travelled all over the world during John's 23 years in the Air Force. They were stationed in Guam in 1962-1965 and met dear friends, Bob and Joanne Lentz. They remained friends and saw each other often over the years. Denny was Godmother to Bob and Joanne's son, Joey Lentz. The family travelled to Italy and lived in Southern Italy from 1969-1972. In Italy, they met the John and Nila Johnson from Elwood, Indiana. Another friendship that was very special and lasted over all these years. So many of the friends they met while being stationed at numerous bases would remain in their lives forever!
Denny loved taking care of her family over the years. Denny and John travelled in their fifth wheel after John retired and did this for over fifteen years. Her faithful companion, Fritz, travelled with them everywhere they went! The really loved to travel. John and Denny went to Hong Kong and Japan while stationed in Guam. They travelled all over Europe while stationed in Southern Italy. It was a good life filled with such togetherness of her, John and Annie.
Denny was very involved in the Moose Lodge over the years. Denny and John also were very involved in their church, Resurrection of the Lord, in San Antonio, Texas. In 1992, Denny and John moved to Castroville, Texas, as they wanted to downsize and travel. The memories of these times will be forever remembered by those Denny touched.
After John passed on December 8, 2023, Denny had a difficult time as she had never been without John since she was 20 years old. Their life and love is much admired. Denny is survived by her daughter, Annie Koval Tischer and her son-in-law, Bill Tischer, who she loved so very much! Denny will be missed by all, but as she is with John again, it helps to know Denny is where she wanted to be and that is with John. Denny was interred at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio beside John.
Denny is survived by Anna Koval Tischer, daughter and son-in-law Bill Tischer. Michael Potocnak, brother-in-law, Bobbie Matteucci, sister-in-law, Joseph "Jody" Koval, nephew. Denny is preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Koval, Joseph Koval, brother-in-law, Andy and Dolores Koval, brother and sister in-law, Andrew Koval, nephew.
Thanks to the nurses and staff at Blue Skies, The Mission. A very special thank you to the Hospice nurses who took care of Denny before her passing.
