Christa Arnold

July 15, 1939 — May 24, 2022

Christa Arnold transitioned peacefully from this life on May 24th, 2022 surrounded by the love of her many friends. She was born to Max and Erna Moldenhauer née Hoffman in Germany, two months before the outbreak of World War II. Christa spent her early childhood hiding and playing in foxholes. As a teenager, on an outing with her grandmother, she caught a glimpse of a handsome young man in a group of people gathered in her small town. Immediately she proclaimed she would one day marry Ernst, which eventually she did. The two spent more than 60 years together traveling the world, exploring exotic places and building a happy life together. As a young married couple they lived in Cape Town South Africa, traveling back to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. They were completely devoted to each other until Ernst’s passing in 2019. They shared a love of art, wildlife and the great outdoors. They loved the rugged natural beauty of our country’s national parks and made annual pilgrimages. Christa was an accomplished artist and photographer, filling her home with her beautiful artwork. An avid animal lover, Christa adored her double lemon-headed parrot Miko, a faithful and affectionate companion with a wicked sense of humor. Known for her warmth and kindness, Christa will be remembered for the deep and loving connections she made throughout her life. She was a loving and generous friend, always happy to give of her time to offer compassionate advice or a shoulder to cry on. Christa surrounded herself with friends from various social circles including two lifelong childhood friendships with Erika and Renata, whom she spoke with every week. Christa was a resident of San Antonio for the last 20 years of her life. She shared her caring and gracious spirit with those closest to her through baking homemade breads, traditional German foods and gifting an annual Christmas Stolen. Her enduring spirit of quiet strength, compassion and warmth will be missed by all who loved her.
