Craig "Scott" Newhouse

August 26, 1972 — February 8, 2018

Scott Newhouse, 45, was born in 1972 in Santa Fe, New Mexico and died on February 8, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Scott came from LOVE and has returned to LOVE.
Our family moved to San Antonio in 1976 and Scott spent forty-three of his forty- five years suffering from intractable Epilepsy that resulted in severe developmental delays and psychosis. Through all of the years of trying to find treatments and medications to stop the seizures and psychosis, he was loved and supported by his parents and by his two sisters, Elizabeth “Betsy” Land and Jennifer Smith. Scott called himself a carpenter and created many objects out of wood with his dad. He always had a puppy dog at his side, a great sense of humor and every night he had conversations with God. Once he heard someone asking for an aspirin for a headache and he said, “Ask God it is faster”. One of his favorite things to do was to go out to eat enchiladas. In 2003, Scott met his foster family, Rosalinda and Rob Johnston and their extended family. He loved them dearly and our two families shared parenting always learning from Scott. He taught us many foundational lessons and one of the most important was that he trusted people by seeking out their hearts - he did not see a person’s color, or judge their clothes or their possessions. Probably most important, Scott taught us how to love one another, to open our eyes and to become advocates for all people who are suffering from any adversity.
Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Francis Newhouse and by Robert and Barbara Ellis. He is survived by his parents, Craig Scott Newhouse and Elizabeth E. Newhouse, his sister, Elizabeth Land, her husband Mark Land and by nieces Carrie and Katherine Plank, and by his sister Jennifer Smith, her husband Allen and by his nephew Hunter Smith and niece Allison Smith. He is also survived by aunts and uncles from both sides of the family plus nieces, nephews and cousins.
We are especially grateful for Dr. Rich Ferguson’s willingness to walk with us over the past months and for Embrace Hospice and Mindy Fuller as we made this final journey.
