The Life Celebrated of Darrell Taylor
Darrell Dean Taylor, Son of Patrick and Wilma Taylor, born on August 21st, 1950 in Mason City, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on May 27th 2017. Preceded in death by his mother and survived by his father Patrick and his sister, Renee Morelli.

Even though not his first career choice, Darrell spent most of his adult life in broadcasting after serving in the United States Navy, completing three tours in Viet Nam. Darrell started his radio career in San Diego, California, in the early 1970s; his golden voice took him to radio stations in Colorado as well as his adopted state of Texas. In 2000, Darrell ended his broadcasting career after 27 years at San Antonio’s KSMG Magic 105.3.

Before joining the Navy, Darrell managed the café at Landa Park and was an elevator operator at the Faust Hotel in New Braunfels. Along with his radio career, Darrell also owned a modeling/talent and photography company in Colorado, and was a voice and public speaking coach for the North East Independent School District’s community continuing education program in San Antonio.

Darrell often said, “I love to entertain. It’s the control I have when I am on the radio that gives me that magic that makes this business so fun”. That “control” was his ability to connect to so many while on the air. Darrell’s wit, timing, offbeat humor, and the fun atmosphere he created while on the air made him one of San Antonio’s greatest voices. Darrell will be inducted into the San Antonio Society of Radio Broadcaster’s Hall of Fame in August of 2017. An amazing career for a man who originally wanted to be a forest ranger!

DARRELL

As a little boy he competed to be first in everything.
As a Navy coxswain (in charge) of an assault landing craft,
his boat was the pride of his group.
He felt the deep hell of the Viet Nam war after three tours
which left him a mentally wounded warrior.
As a broadcaster he strived to make his station number one
and bring happiness to all with his sense of humor and golden voice.
And he faced death with bravery, courage and faith.
Sharing his love and grace in Christ with all his friends and family;
more concerned with their well being than his own.
His last words were, "Can I take my Bible with me to heaven?"

A memorial service will be held at Churchill Baptist Church (12400 Vista View, San Antonio, Texas 78231) on the 9th of June, 2017, at 11 am. A brief reception at the church will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army in Darrell’s honor.
