David Hampton Gresham (77), a loving spouse of 53 years and a proud father of two children and five grandchildren in San Antonio, Texas, died on April 17, 2024.
He was born in Cleburne, Texas, in 1946 to George and Johnnie Gresham. After high school, David joined the Air Force and retired after 21 years of service. He then pursued an education in computers at Southwest Texas University. He worked at Judson ISD before transitioning to begin the computer program/department at Schertz Cibolo Universal City ISD.
David met the love of his life, Julia, in 1970 while stationed at Laredo Air Force Base. Excited to start their new lives together, they married in Laredo, Texas on July 24, 1971.
David was a devoted and loving father to Michael Gresham and Christina Hruska, who dearly miss him and the life lessons he imparted to them. He was always there for his family, children, and grandchildren, including attending numerous band and choir concerts, theater productions, ballet productions, piano recitals, etc. One of his many delights was making his family his famous pancakes, and he especially loved making them with his grandchildren. He also had a passion for the grill and gathering his family together to enjoy his barbecue.
His passion in life was spending time with his family, including traveling with his grandchildren. Every holiday was a reason to get together and enjoy family. His quick wit and kind personality were demonstrated to everyone he met, including medical staff, throughout his life, even to the last day. David’s brilliant spirit, radiant smile, and compassionate heart captivated everyone who had the chance to know him.
David was preceded in death by his parents, George and Johnnie Gresham, his sister Lyneve Shaver, and his grandson Aeidan Gresham. He is survived by his wife Julia Gresham and her siblings Connie Martinez and Rosendo Rodriguez; his children Michael Gresham and Christina Hruska; his grandchildren Lauren Gresham, Laurena Gresham, Shaun Hruska, and Anastasia Hruska; and numerous nephews, nieces, grand nephews, and grand nieces.
Service will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Selma, TX on May 6, 2024, at 11 a.m., preceded by a rosary. Interment will be held at Fort Sam Houston at 2:15 p.m.
