David Anthony Martinez

April 18, 1957 — March 4, 2025

A Heart of Gold, A Legacy of Love

David Anthony Martinez passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 67. Born on April 18, 1957, in the same city he called home his entire life, David's journey was one marked by unwavering love, selfless devotion, and a genuine warmth that touched everyone he encountered.

David's life was a testament to the power of family and the importance of connection. He attended Christ the King grade school and graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1976, laying the foundation for a life of dedication. In 1982, he pledged his heart to Martha Coronado at the beautiful San Fernando Cathedral, a union that blossomed into a life of cherished memories.

For 35 years, David poured his energy and expertise into the North East Independent School District's Engineering & Maintenance Department, contributing his skills and dedication to the community. However, his true legacy lies in the love he shared with his family.

After the untimely passing of his beloved Martha, David displayed extraordinary strength and resilience, raising his children, Melissa and Anthony, with boundless love and unwavering support. He instilled in them the values of kindness, generosity, and the importance of human connection. David’s character was truly exceptional. He was a man of unwavering kindness, a loving soul who never turned away anyone in need. His generosity knew no bounds, and his ability to make everyone feel like family was a gift he shared freely.

David's passions were as diverse as his friendships. He found joy in the intricate world of model trains, sharing these countless hours with his son, Anthony. His love for sports, particularly the San Antonio Spurs, created a special bond with his daughter, Melissa. For nearly 15 years, they shared season tickets, creating cherished memories and building a "Spurs Family" that extended far beyond the court. David’s presence at the games was a celebration of community, where he greeted every usher, security guard, and fellow fan with a warm smile and a heartfelt hug. He also passionately attended Melissa's basketball games as a coach.

In his retirement, David found immense joy in spending time with his grandson, JR, and working alongside his brother-in-law at the ranch, embracing the simple pleasures of life.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred T. and Gloria Martinez; his brother, Alfred Martinez; and his beloved wife, Martha Martinez. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in his daughter, Melissa Martinez; his son, Anthony Martinez, and his wife, Roxanne Martinez; his grandson, JR; his godson, Adrian Zapata; his brother, Edward Martinez, and his wife, Diane Martinez; and numerous nieces and nephews along with his extended family including his mother-in-law and four sister in laws.

David Anthony Martinez will be deeply missed, but his spirit of love, kindness, and unwavering generosity will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He left the world a better place, one smile and one hug at a time.
