Diane Elizabeth Stanford

June 23, 1944 — November 19, 2013

Diane E. Stanford, born June 23, 1944 in Malvern, England, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 19, 2013. She was the beloved daughter of the late Duane and Phyllis (Robbins) Mellor. Diane was married to her late husband, Dale for 41 years. She is survived by her children: James Jones, John Jones (Becky), Susan Jones, William Stanford (Claudia), and Staci Vargo (Randy); 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; her siblings Susan Short (Wallace), Duane Mellor (Leighton), Trish Pedersen (Peter); and numerous other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Mellor. A 1962 graduate of Highlands High School, Diane worked almost 40 years for the Bexar County Tax Assessor, much of that time as a manager. Her expertise was called upon repeatedly as a contributor for Joe A. Faulkner's Action Line in the San Antonio Light. Diane was a direct descendent of Erastus "Deaf" Smith, a hero of the war for Texas independence. Diane always considered her greatest accomplishment to be her family. The family wishes to thank Dr. Terrance Fried, MD and the Davita Dialysis staff for 8 years of profound and loving care. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Frierson, Dr. Leinen, Dr. Rao, and the doctors, nurses, and staff of Metropolitan Methodist Hospital for their wonderful care. A Rosary, followed by Mass, will be celebrated Friday, November 22, 2013 at 9:30am at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. A memorial service will be held at Puente & Sons Funeral Home, Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 2:00p.m. Burial will be Monday, November 25, 2013 at 2:30 pm at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that lives be saved by donating blood to the San Antonio Blood and Tissue Bank, or that monetary donations be made to the National Kidney Fund in Diane's name.
