Dixie L. Johnson

December 11, 1921 — December 31, 2012

Dixie Lee Wallen Johnson entered Heaven December 31st to join the angels and those whom preceded her surrounded by her family. She was born in Bard, New Mexico to John Flem Wallen and Carrie Shannon Wallen on December 11, 1921. Throughout her 91 years she was a caretaker, mother and grandparent to so many we cannot name them all. Working alongside her siblings she picked crops as a migrant worker to help feed her family during the depression, starting at a very young age. She married Paul Johnson January 3, 1947 bringing with her Tom Shelly from a previous marriage. They gave birth to Paula, Johnny and Scott. Sadly, Johnny went to the Lord December 6th, 1975. Mother leaves behind son Tom (Judy) and grandchildren Donna (with great grandchildren Nick and Lori) and Tommy Shelley; daughter Paula Cariker with grandsons Michael McFarlin (with great granddaughter Bridgette) and Raby Cariker; son Scott Johnson and grandchildren Allyssa and Andrew Johnson. There are so many that mother lovingly touched. When very young, she helped raise her younger siblings. As she aged, she assisted in raising neighborhood children, her own children and then her grandchildren and great grandchildren with unconditional love. In lieu of flowers, the family proposes a gift to a favorite children’s charitable entity like St. Jude’s or your church. Rest in peace, Dixie. We are so thankful for your love.
