Doris Ann Charlton Ellis of San Antonio, TX, passed from this life on Monday, December 8, 2014, at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 21 days, to be with her Heavenly Father. Born June 17, 1943 in San Antonio to William and Janie (Emert) Charlton. Doris was daughter number 5 of their 7 daughters. Doris attended South San Antonio High School where she met her sweetheart and future husband, J Harold Ellis of Maryville, TN. They were married on December 10, 1961, in San Antonio and lived most of their years in TX, with just a brief time in TN.
Doris dearly loved her children, grandchildren and the one great grandchild she had. Doris lived in Hondo, for a while to be near her son, Michael. While there, she faithfully attended the Hondo Church of Christ and was active in the Ladies Bible Class that met weekly, and made many friends and memories. She then moved to San Antonio, with her daughter, Lisa and has been a member of the Randolph Church of Christ for the last year. She dearly loved the Christian fellowship. Doris had a green thumb, which she inherited from her mother, Janie. She loved to work with her plants, flowers and vegetable garden almost as much as she loved to bird watch. She enjoyed reading and studying birds, plants, history, mysteries, romance, psychology…well anything she could get her hands on. Her all-time favorite book, of course, was the Holy Bible. She loved to sing church hymns both at church and at family gatherings, and to watch old western movies. The Duke, John Wayne, you guessed it, was her favorite. Her other hobbies or interests included crafts of any kind, puzzles, painting and looking for mouth-watering recipes.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents: William and Janie Charlton, two of her sisters: Evelyn (Reese) Porterfield and Nelda (Dooley) Hamilton, and by her husband and friend J Harold Ellis. Doris is survived in death by 4 of her sisters: Virginia Schneider, Jean Pairett, Eloise (Goss) Loyless , and Judy Davis. By her children: Michael Ward and Carol (Damron) Ellis, Randall Blair and Kathy ( ) Ellis, J Harold Ellis, Jr., James William Ellis and Lisa Ann Ellis. Her grandchildren: Jeremy, Tabitha, David, Heather, Annavel, Stephanie, William and Jordyn. She had one great grandchild Ameri, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
