Doris Boardman

Doris Boardman (Orton), born April 1, 1931 in Paddiham Lancashire, England, continued her next journey, Tuesday, November 1, 2011. Her husband of 59 years, Thomas and four children, Christine, Hilary, James and Mark, survives Doris. An adventurous Lacastrian lass, Doris immigrated to the United States in 1966 with husband Thomas and their five children. In 1981, Doris and family settled in San Antonio where she immersed herself in serving others as a social volunteer, serving abused wives and unmarried teenage mothers. Doris was an avid golfer and member of the, Northern Hills Country Club for many years, tirelessly volunteering for the regular and senior P.G.A golf tours. Denied a college education during World War II, Doris described her education in a small village school as knitting mittens, scarves and balaclava’s for members of the British Armed Forces. In her 49th year of life, Doris’s thirst for knowledge inspired her to earn the United States General Education Diploma, followed by a Bachelors of Arts Degree, and the opportunity for postgraduate studies at Cambridge, England. Always exhibiting the North Country English forthrightness and humor, she was a strong supporter of the English crown, a remarkable lady, loving mother, devoted wife and Lancashire Lass, Tarrah Luv. Hospice of San Antonio and her devoted son and daughter, who ensured constant care and attention until the end of her earthly course, nursed Doris at home. In Lieu of flowers, Doris would have wished that contributions be made to a, Benevolent Fund benefitting handicapped veterans. Service of remembrance will take place Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the, Puente & Sons Funeral Home, 14315 Judson Rd, SA, TX, 78233, at, 12:00 PM, with a luncheon immediately following at the, Northern Hills Country Club at 1:00 PM, 1302 Scarsdale, SA, TX 78217, of Thousand Oakes.
