Doris Inez Morris

September 6, 1943 — November 9, 2024

Doris Inez Morris, born McDonald, on September 6, 1943, in Weatherford, Texas, passed away on November 9, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. Doris was a cherished member of her family, church, and community, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that touched the lives of all who knew her.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Hazel McDonald, whose love and Christian teachings influenced her character and life philosophy deeply. Her one sibling, Jimmy Loyd, died in 2018.

After growing up on the family farm 15 miles north of Weatherford, Texas, Doris graduated from Springtown High School in 1962, and Abilene Christian College (now ACU) in May 1966. She married Chuck July 2, 1966.

Doris and Chuck shared 58 joyful years. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and unwavering companionship. As a devoted mother, she raised two children, Kerry Loreen Gilb (Tony) and Dr. Scot Richard Morris (Pennissi), instilling in them the values of hard work and compassion that guided her own life.

Doris was a certified home economics teacher and consummate military wife. Her passions, however, were her roles as mother, grandmother, and minister's wife. She and the children followed Chuck in the Air Force all over the USA for 27 years. Her children experienced schools and cultures in Turkey, Texas, California, Virginia, Alaska, New Mexico, and Ohio. She helped her children learn from different schools and cultures. Their success in later life can be partly attributed to those experiences. After Air Force retirement and Chuck's ministry education at ACU, they moved back to San Antonio in July of 1995 for Chuck's ministry at the NorthWest Church of Christ. She focused on being a grandmother the rest of her life.

Her role as a grandmother brought Doris immense joy. She was a doting grandmother to Annie, Mason, Jakob, Avery, Luke, Paetra, Parker, and RaeLee. Each grandchild held a special place in her heart, and she often expressed her affection through memories they created together. Doris was also blessed later in life with three great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Jace, and Jaxson. As Jakob, Avery, and Luke were growing up, they spent extended periods with her during summers, enjoying Sea World, Fiesta Texas, and just being with her. For several summers, five of her grandchildren and their mothers spent a week at the beach in Corpus Christi.

Doris loved to travel. She and Chuck traveled Europe, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Alaska by cruise ship and bus tour. Starting in 2017, they enjoyed their travel trailer during trips to the Ohio Decorative Painters' convention, Black Hills, Yellowstone, and visits to family in Ennis, Brownwood and Weatherford.

Doris painted passionately. She started while living in California during the late 1970s, gaining a skill that matured the rest of her life. Her home is full of her art objects and paintings. She loved bright colors and the deep, subtle shades under those colors.

A woman of strength and grace, Doris's kindness and generosity will be remembered fondly by her family and friends. Her spirit will live on through the many lives she has touched and in the security of God's eternal presence.

For friends and family who may want to contribute something in honor of Doris, the Afghan Refugee Ministry at NorthWest Church of Christ will use your gift to provide essential items for refugees moving to this country.
