Dr. John Ijoma Egeolu, III, passed on October 31, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 67. He was born February 27, 1954, in Nigeria to the late John Ijoma Egeolu, II, and Constance Uchenwa Egeolu.
It was clear to anyone, his love for education and his adventurous fun-loving spirit. As an avid scholar, he obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas Southern University in 1979, a Master of Business Administration in Marketing at St. Mary's University in 1980, another Master of Management Information Systems at the University of Maryland, and a Ph.D. in Public Administration/ Political Economy/ Methodology at Howard University in 1988.
John’s diverse career paths in Finance, Technology, Education, and Non-Profit spanned decades in numerous roles, including Executive Director/Founder of Community Development Inc., Education/Community Economic Development Consultant, Director of Programs at CECID, Network Systems Engineer at then Lucent Technologies, Financial Consultant at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, and Adjunct Professor at various colleges.
In his Arochukwu, Nigeria community, John was titled the “Ugwu Aro” and “Omereoha” in recognition for his numerous community development endeavors that also include the building of a local Methodist Church in his hometown.
John was preceded in death by his father, John Egeolu, II, his mother, Constance Egeolu, and his brother Dr. Ochiabuto Chituru Egeolu.
John is survived by his wife of 37 years, Charity, their four children Daisy, John, Royce, and Michelle, his sister Mrs. Ogo Asekhame and brothers Sir Philip, Ikoku, and Henry.
A Celebration of Life Prayer Service will be held at University United Methodist Church, 5084 De Zavala Rd, San Antonio, TX 78249.
