Dwain W. Vincent, also fondly remembered as Wilbur Dwain Vincent III, was called home by our Lord on March 9, 2025. He is preceded in death by his father, Wilbur Dwain Vincent II, and mother, Dora Annette Baird Vincent. Dwain retired in San Antonio and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rosa A. Vincent, and daughter Rossana K. Vincent.
Dwain was born and raised in Boise, Idaho, with his sister Sharon Vincent Colucci. In his Youth, he worked for two summers at Harrison State Park in Idaho as a ranch hand, where he started each day felling pine trees for fence and firewood, building miles of new fences, along with mowing and bailing hay. More physical work was to follow, as by horseback through his adult career, incredible feats for a polio survivor. He graduated from the University of Idaho, class of 1967, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry and Range Management. Dwain’s life quest for animal conservation and continuing education inspired him to become a zoo docent at the Albuquerque Zoo and later again volunteering as a docent for the San Antonio Zoo. He was a member of the San Antonio Audubon Society and was an avid bird watcher
Dwain began his 33-year career as a National Resource Specialist with the Bureau of Land Management. Before working for the U.S. Department of The Interior in Nevada and New Mexico, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Chemult, Oregon. Through everything he did as a young adult and even into his career, one of his proudest highlights was his work as a volunteer firefighter for the Bureau of Land Management in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Dwain’s passion for Western movies and books made him a popular contributor in a Western Film Fan Club, where he enjoyed posting many historical photos and fielding questions from other members. He was also John Wayne’s #1 fan. Dwain had recently written a note stating he was a “poor, dumb gringo” who married the love of his life in Monterrey, Mexico. Most importantly, he was a beloved husband and father.
