Eddie Lyle Kennedy, Jr. passed from this life on October 2, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on June 1, 1949, in Borger, Texas to Eddie Lyle Kennedy and Ruby Rogers Kennedy. Ed was a Phillips Blackhawk graduating in the class of 1967.
Ed attended The University of Texas where he began his journalism career working on the university newspaper. He attended UT on a full scholarship awarded by Phillips Petroleum Company. He worked at newspapers in Abilene, and Borger as well as being on the staff of the Amarillo Globe News from 1980 to 1986.
In 1972 he had one of his most interesting assignments with "The News" which was a newspaper for the English speaking community in Mexico City where he reported on the Mexican Government. He was also the Mexico stringer for Newsweek Magazine.
Most of Ed's career was spent at the Honolulu Advertiser where he was travel editor and served in many editorial capacities through the years.
Survivors include a brother, Rennie (Sharon) Kennedy of Woodward, OK a sister, Tiata (David) Campbell of San Antonio and his daighter Jennifer Kennedy of Los Angeles.
A Memorial Service will take place in Hawaii at a later date.
