Edgar Claudio Martinez

February 22, 1935 — March 24, 2019

Edgar Claudio Martinez was born on February 22, 1935 in Las Esperanzas, Coahuila, Mexico and was called home to eternal rest on March 24, 2019 at the age of 84. Edgar was raised with his two parents and 6 siblings. Edgar was the 2nd oldest of his brothers and sisters. At the young age of about 15, Edgar left his family and home in Mexico and journeyed to San Antonio, Texas in search of the “American Dream.” From that point forward he quickly became independent, working on ranches as a Ranchero, moving cattle, then later driving concrete mixer trucks until the day he met his beautiful wife and together they became restaurateurs, owning and professionally managing several Mexican restaurants including El Patron and Las Norteñitas, a food truck, a tortilla factory, name Quetitas Tortillas with the popular slogan “No te levantes hunny,” and a neighborhood corner store. Edgar was a very intelligent business man who succeeded in his endeavors and left a great example for his children to follow. Edgar lived a full, happy, healthy and successful life. His greatest accomplishment on this earth was completing and honoring a covenant of 51 years of marriage. Edgar and his wife raised 8 children 3 boys, and 5 girls who he loved unconditionally and was proud of. In his younger years, Edgar loved deer hunting. He would dedicate time during the season to teach his children, including the girls how to hunt for food in order to become self sufficient Martinez’s! Recently he had a change of heart, and said he would never consider hunting deer again because he felt a compassion toward all of Gods creatures especially his companion dog “Snowball.” Edgar liked to sit outside on beautiful days and listen to the birds sing and admire the flowers along with all of nature’s beauty.
There was never a dull moment with Edgar. He was a very funny man and always joked around. He had a great sense of humor with an admirable character. He loved to be the center of attention and liked being photographed making funny faces. He also liked to dance and sing mariachi music, with his deep voice and dramatic facial expressions. He was a good storyteller, you never knew if it was an actual true story or a completely imagined. He had a contagious laugh and beautiful smile that will be always be remembered. Edgar leaves his imprint on our hearts. Edgar will be truly missed by all who loved him especially his wife and children. Edgar is preceded in death by his parents: Jose Homero Martinez & Carolina Ayala De Martínez; his father and mother in-law: Luis & Andrea Campuzano; his brother: Sergio Homero Martinez; his sister: Santa Nora Muehlenhaupt; his two brothers-in-laws: Jack Muehlenhaupt and Tony Forcucci; and his three grandsons: Gilbert Fernandez III, Jonathon Ryan Sanchez, and Mario Alberto Garay. He is survived by his loving wife María Enriqueta Martinez, his children who loved and adored him: Mary Jane Esquivel and her husband Jose Esquivel, Rolando Martinez, Fernando Martinez, Claudio Alejandro Martinez, Margarita Fernandez and her husband Gilbert Fernandez II, Sonia Patrcia Martínez, Rosario Adrianna Martinez, Monica Araceli Garcia and her husband Dimas Garcia III, and Claudia Enriqueta Martinez; his brothers and sisters: Héctor Manuel Martinez and his wife Esperanza Martinez, Dora Silvia Forcucci, Carlos Martinez, Linda Violeta Martínez and sister in law: Rosa Martinez; 24 grandchildren, 20 great grand children; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.
