Elena Landman Slazenik age 66, of Sutherland Springs, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2017, at Methodist VITAS Hospice in San Antonio, Texas. She was born May 17, 1951 in Laredo, Texas to Lydia Campos and Alfredo Torres.
Elena attended school in Laredo, Texas through the fourth grade and traveled as a migrant. She would later complete her adult education in Wisconsin and Texas. Elena worked as a school bus driver for Northeast Independent School District in San Antonio. She later drove for Greyhound Bus Lines, which she was most proud of and enjoyed traveling across the country.
She was married to Norman Landman in 1977 and had a son Brian Landman. Elena and Norman later divorced remaining lifelong friends. Elena was cared for by Norman while she was battling liver disease and was there until the end.
She was passionate about saving and caring for the animals she had rescued. Throughout her life she has saved many animals. "Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened." - Anatole France
Elena was preceded in death by her mother and grandmother Zulema Ruiz.
She is survived by her best friend Norm Landman, son Brian Landman, his wife Jessica Serna, her granddog Tank, brothers: Oscar, Victor, Juan, and Roberto. Sisters: Diana, Toni, Lydia, and Zulema, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and others whose lives Elena touched, dogs 1-15, 2 horses, parrot, birds, turtle, and cats.
She will be greatly missed and may God rest her soul.
