Ellen E. Martin

Ellen Elizabeth Martin (Kappes) was born to Heinrich and Gertrude Kappes on February 1, 1929, in Wiesbaden, Germany. Ellen passed away on August 14, 2014 in San Antonio Texas, at the age of 85. She is preceded in death by her parents and her older brother Hans Peter Kappes. She is survived by her son Michael. In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, Ellen worked in San Antonio for SAMSCO and Bernhard Altmann in various clerical and administrative capacities. She later accepted a position at Southwest Foundation for Research and Education, and spent nearly thirty years working as administrative assistant and later as Grants Director for her division. Ellen also performed duties as treasurer and board member for the SwRI Credit Union. Ellen had a cheery personality, often witty and sometimes outspoken. It was truly a pleasure to know her. Ellen was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
