Elmer Eugene Morgan

January 11, 1920 — November 12, 2012

Mr. Morgan is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Mrs. John Leona Morgan; and four brothers: Clarence, Lyle, Bob, Paul Morgan. Mr. E.E. Morgan is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Mrs. Joyce Morgan; his son, Mark Morgan (Pat); his duaghters, Robin Odette (Paul), and Rhonda Good (Ray); his brothers, Carl Morgan, Wayne Morgan, Dean Morgan (Jerry), Jimmy Morgan (Laura), Dale Morgan (Pat); his sister, Shirley Pitzer (Paul); his six grandchildren four great grandchildren. Elmer grew up on a farm near Cerro Gordo, IL. After high school he attended Illinois State University at Normal, IL. Upon completion of his junior year of college, he and others from the college, were recruited by Chanute AFB IL to come to the base as instructors to replace the ones who had left for WWII. He was an instructor for a couple of years at Chanute, then he enlisted in the Navy and served one enlistment; he then returned Chanute AFB. He completed his college degree at the University of Illinois at Champaign IL while working full time. During the mid-1950s to mid-1960s, he was involved in setting up training for the various missile programs. In 1972 he transferred from Chanute AFB to HQ Air Training Command at Randolph AFB, where he worked until retiring in January 1979. His combined military/civilian service totaled 37 years, and he was awarded the USAF Meritorious Civilian Service Award upon his retirement. He was active in all sports during his high school and college years, but golf was his favorite and he played golf until he was in his late 80s. He was a member of Coker United Methodist Church. The family would like to thank long-time caregivers Marie Chappelle and Ava White, and the Clare Bridge Assisted Living staff for their wonderful care of Elmer. In addition, a special thanks goes to Hope Hospice for their kind and caring attention to Elmer during his final days. The family will be forever grateful to all the people who made Elmer’s life better during his illness.
