Eva is missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends whom she loved so very much. Eva Charlotte Borgeson (Strauss), born April 26, 1934, in Schmolln, Germany, passed away in San Antonio, Texas from complications of cancer on October 19, 2020 at the age of 86.
Eva was the daughter of Herr Karl Emil Herman Strauss, and Frau Charlotte Helene Braeuner, both from Schmolln, Germany. She grew up as a young girl in Schmolln prior to WWII Germany where her family owned a button manufacturing factory. After the end of WWII her father was sent to a Siberian GULAG in the Soviet Union. The rest of her family was sent to the ghettos in Soviet-occupied communist East Germany where they survived on rutabaga and potato soup with 20 family members in one small room. Realizing the desperate situation, Eva escaped East Germany and was able to secure passage to Spain. In Spain, Eva worked for a family as a nanny and housekeeper earning enough money to buy passage to New York. In New York she found a job at a department store where she worked for a few years. Eventually, she met Robert Dean Borgeson and they were married on February 21, 1964. Robert preceded her in death on August 13, 1988 at the Veterans Hospital in Portland, Oregon.
Eva was a homemaker until her husband’s passing. She then worked at Meier & Frank in Portland, Oregon and also as a salesclerk in a St. John’s boutique. She began teaching private language lessons in German and English. She spoke four languages, German, French, Spanish, and English. Upon the reunification of Germany, Eva returned to Schmolln, Germany for a few years, then back to Portland, Oregon where she continued to teach. After retiring from work she met Fred Reynolds making a new home together, Fred was her partner in life until her passing. Eva and Fred traveled from California to Arizona to New Mexico ultimately making a home in San Antonio, Texas.
Eva has one surviving sister, Christina Flora Kroth (Strauss) who lives in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
Eva is survived by her eldest son Erik B. Borgeson of Lansing, Kansas, married to Cheryl M. (Johnson), and her youngest son, Adrian K. Borgeson of Lake Oswego, Oregon. The Lord blessed Eva with five wonderful grandchildren: Tylor, Samuel, Sydney, Erika and Savannah.
May she peacefully rest in the hands of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
