Felix Tavitas Casares

March 13, 1947 — March 22, 2020

Felix Tavitas Casares of San Antonio, Texas left his body peacefully on March 22, 2020. Felix was a loving father, and a man of faith born an only child to parents Felix and Nicolasa Casares. He’s described by those who knew him as kind, compassionate, and a good listener.

Felix attended school and lived his entire life in San Antonio Texas. He graduated from Harlandale High School in 1965 where he played football until he suffered an injury. He met his wife of 42 years, Mary Lou Rios, in sixth grade watching her sharpen her pencil from the classroom across the hall. After being married in 1966, Felix was drafted into the armed services where he proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Germany.

Upon returning home, Felix and Mary Lou focused on creating and building a faith based family. They gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Christine in 1971, a second daughter, Gwendolyn in 1977, and twin sons, Gilbert Anthony and Michael Aaron in 1983. Sadly, in 2008, after their children had grown, Felix and Mary Lou divorced and pursued their own lives separately.

Felix retired from the University of San Antonio, and Wal-Mart after 10 years of service 2019. He remained a man of faith and had friends in the Community Bible Church and the Summit Christian Center. He was well liked among his colleagues and friends, and was always proud of his children’s lives and accomplishments, and his San Antonio Spurs.

Felix will receive a full Military service, complete with rifle volley and honors, as his father had, who rests with his wife at Fort Sam Houston. He will be missed and remembered by those who knew and loved him.

The memorial service and Military ceremony for Felix T. Casares will be held on Friday, November 13th, 2020 at 9:30 AM at the Summit Christian Center located at 2575 Marshall Road, San Antonio, Texas, 78259.
