Frances (Betty) Austin Tavernier, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, in New Braunfels, Texas. Preceding her in death are her husband Howard, sons John, Craig, and Tim, grandson Jason, and great-granddaughter Elle. Betty is survived by her loving sons and their wives Steve, Joe and Rita, Andy and Mary, Gary and Norma, Patrick, Chris and Cathy, Jayme and Janet, Tony and Regina, Matt and Darcie, and Craig’s wife Debbie. She also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Betty was born on November 18, 1925, in Warsaw, NY. She met the love of her life, Howard Tavernier, after his return from WWII and they married on May 3, 1947. Together they had 12 sons and travelled to several Army installations including in France and Germany. Betty and Howard remained married for 49 years until Howard’s passing in July 1996. Betty was especially proud of the fact that all of her boys served in the military.
When not busy raising her boys, Betty was active in the Catholic church specifically the St. Anthony’s, St. Peter’s, and St. Thomas Moore parishes. She also had a love for gardening and the Texas landscape. Betty loved to go on long car rides, visiting small local eateries along the way. Betty and her family also spent endless hours at Canyon Lake, the Guadalupe River, and the coast.
The family is very thankful for the loving care provided to Betty at Oak Tree Assisted Living and by Heart-to-Heart Hospice, with special thanks to Eileen, Angie, and Jackie. A memorial service will be held at a later date for the family.
God saw you were getting tired, so He put His arms around you and whispered, “Come with me.”
