Frederick Dennis Klatt, 67, died August 28, 2013, peacefully in his sleep at home in San Antonio. Fred was born August 1, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois to Frederick M. and Lydia E. (Maki) Klatt. Fred grew up in Chicago, and graduated from Lane Tech High School in 1964. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin in 1969, Fred married Karen Larson on August 1, 1970, in Chicago. Fred moved to San Antonio in 1970 while serving in the U.S. Army as an instructor of microbiology. After discharge, Fred was employed as a medical laboratory technologist, retiring in 2000. Fred became the owner of Schnabel's True Value Hardware in Olmos Park in 2003, and worked there until his death. Fred was known for his expertise in household repairs, and he enjoyed spending long hours in the shop fixing lamps.
Fred was a devoted follower of Christ, and served his church as an elder for decades. During his struggle with cancer, Fred and Karen drew closer to each other and God through prayer and reading Scripture together. Fred died in peace knowing that he would be with the Lord Jesus for eternity.
Fred is survived by his wife, Karen; his son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Meredith Klatt; his daughter and son-in-law, Kristin Larson and Matthew Bartlett; his son, David; his son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Jesse Klatt; and ten grandchildren.
