Born on Oct. 3, 1949, in Rouses Point, N.Y., son of Edna Frances (Mero) and George Lowell Miner, Gary was raised there, attending school in Rouses Point and Champlain, N.Y. After serving a brief tour overseas in the U.S. Air Force as a Dog Handler, Gary returned to Rouses Point permanently. In 1973, Gary entered employment with Anachemia Chemicals, serving 41 years as their truck driver and liaison to the Montreal office prior to his retirement in October 2014. He loved God, big engines, fast cars, the outdoors, exploring science, "tinkering" with projects, good music, and the love of family and friends. Gary was well known for his devotion as a single father and caretaker of his elderly mother; dedicated employee; and friend to all.
Gary leaves his long-time companion, Judi Lapierre of Morrisonville, N.Y.; daughter, Donna Marie Fleming (Miner) and her husband, Christopher Steven Dudney of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren, Brian Andrew Fleming of San Antonio, Texas, and Lauren Elizabeth Fleming of Mountain Home, Texas; life-long friend, Joseph Fournier; numerous nieces, nephews and other friends.
He is preceded in death by his son, David A. Miner; his brothers, John Edward and Alvin George Miner; and his sisters, Anne Rosalie Hewson and Sylvia Frances Luthy.
Gary will be honored in a memorial for family and close friends at his daughter's home in San Antonio, Texas, at 2 p.m. on May 7. Additionally, Celebrations of Life will be arranged in Wisconsin and Rouses Point, N.Y., later this year, followed by a graveside committal service with military honors at St. Patrick's Cemetery, of which notice will be given. Remembrances may be made in the form desired by family and friends and sent to 6122 Mackenzie Drive, San Antonio, TX 78247.
Gary was a humble, giving man and he will forever be missed. For all those who knew Gary well, you can rest assured he would part with these last words, "Happy Trails!"
