Our Lord Jesus called Dave Peterson home on December 19, 2024.
Preceded in death by parents George and Eva Irene Peterson, wife Roberta Peterson, and daughter Laura Jean Fite.
Dave was born on April 22, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan. His family moved to Ontonagon, Michigan where he spent his formative years. While growing up, he enjoyed hunting, archery, basketball, country music, and cowboy culture. Music and basketball became life-long pursuits.
Dave graduated from Ontonagon High School and went on to play varsity basketball for Michigan Tech. He then enlisted in the Air Force, attended Officer Training School, and served for 6 years in military intelligence, spending much of that time in Europe.
After discharging from the Air Force, Dave moved his family to San Antonio, Texas, and began a career in restaurant management and food service. He worked for Frontier Enterprises for many years, managing different Jim’s Restaurant locations as well as the Magic Time Machine. When his time with Frontier ended, he then managed the food service for Texas Military Institute and Sodexo Food Service at Air Force Village Retirement Community.
Dave was a charter member of King of Kings Lutheran Church. He was diligent in raising his family in the faith. In his retirement years, Dave would help his wife with letters to the home–bound, and would assist with bulletin preparations.
Music was a life-long hobby for Dave. He played guitar, and would often lead sing-alongs at home. He learned to play the harmonica later in life and joined HOOT (Harmonica Organization Of Texas). Dave also enjoyed looking for antiques with his wife, Bobbie. Summer vacations to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula often included bringing a trailer to haul any new-found treasures. He was also an avid San Antonio Spurs fan.
He is survived by sister: Pat Walters, sons: Greg & wife Becky Peterson, Tony and wife Anna Peterson, daughter: Julie Peterson, grandchildren: Eva and husband Dylan Dunlop, Emily Peterson, Erik Peterson, Tim Peterson, Emerson Fite, and Elizabeth Olson, and great grandchildren Emmitt Dunlop, Lincoln Dunlop, Lainey Dunlop and Elliana Arguello-Baker, and many nieces and nephews.
Dave was a devoted family man who modeled integrity. He truly enjoyed spending time with family and friends playing games and telling stories. He will be dearly missed.
