Geraldine J. Kerr

Geraldine (Geri) Jagers Kerr, age 81, of Spring Branch, Texas, passed away at home on Friday, December 19, 2008. She was born August 4, 1927 in Charleston, Ohio to Lila and Leslie Jagers. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert B. Kerr and their three children, Kathleen Kerr Smith with husband David D., Robert J. Kerr with wife Cindy T., and Donald B. Kerr, all of San Antonio, TX., sister in law Wilma (Billie) R. Jagers with nephews Bill and Richard Jagers. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Donald L. Jagers. Grandchildren include Benjamin K. Smith and wife Melissa with great granddaughter Sadie, Zachary R. Smith, Erin E. Smith, Jessica M. Kerr and R. Travis Kerr. Following high school she attended Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, OH, graduating in 1948 with a major in English. She taught school in several communities in Portage County, Ohio, and then signed on with the US Army Special Services Group to serve in the European theater. After assignment to the Detachment in Ulm, Germany, she met and later married the love of her life, Bob. After their youngest, Donald, started kindergarten, Geri returned to teaching, this time the pre kindergarten class for four year olds at St. Christophers Episcopal Day School in Houston where she served for the next 25 years. Her love for children and for teaching continued even after retirement to Spring Branch. She assisted with Sunday school at St. Francis by the Lake Episcopal Church, and served as a volunteer with the RSVP program to tutor young kids in reading at Rebecca Creek Elementary until cancer forced her to stop. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 PM, Saturday January 3, 2009 at St. Francis by the Lake Episcopal Church, 13250 Hwy 306, Canyon Lake, TX. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a memorial fund in her name at St. Francis or to a charity of your choice.
