January 28, 1973 — August 2, 2024

San Antonio

Gerardo C. Cortez Jr., affectionately known as Jerry, went home to be with the Lord on August 2, 2024 at the age of 51 years.

Jerry is survived in death by his wife of 18 years, Jennifer Elmore Cortez, daughter Shadicy Garza and granddaughter Imani; his loving parents, Gerardo G. Cortez Sr. and Margarita C. Cortez; his brother, Dr. Roberto I. Cortez and spouse Ximena, his sister Amanda Cortez Delgado and spouse Uriahn; his 4 nieces, 2 nephews, and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles who loved him so deeply.

He is preceded in death by his brother Alejandro C. Cortez, his maternal grandparents, Francisco and Manuela Castellano; his paternal grandparents, Jesus M. Cortez and Julia Garza; his uncle, Gaspar G. Cortez; and his cousin David Gonzales Jr.

Jerry was a vibrant soul who touched the lives of everyone he met with his kind heart, infectious laugh, and boundless zeal for the Lord.

A talented musician, Jerry was a professional drummer and the lead singer of the band Nimbus KMD. He poured his heart and soul into every performance and cherished the weekly Thursday night rehearsals with his bandmates. His passion in life was creating music that inspired and uplifted others.

Jerry believed that “where words fail, music speaks”, his favorite band was Rush and he was inspired by the lead drummer, Neil Peart.

He had a love for life and enjoyed traveling with his wife and parents. They often went to the beach, where Jerry would relax in the water and find peace in the ocean’s waves.

He was a devoted student of the Bible. Jerry was always fascinated by the stories of giants, mythical creatures, and the lost books of the Bible. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he often credited the Lord for the success of his business, J&J Novelties, where he was lovingly known as the "Clacker-Master."

Throughout his career, Jerry had the opportunity to travel to many places. He often talked about and told hilarious stories of his early adventures on the road with his best friend “Tucker”.

As a writer, poet, and songwriter, Jerry's creativity knew no bounds. He penned short stories and plays and composed beautiful songs that reflected his love for rock music and passion for the Lord.

Those who love him will remember him for his contagious laugh and joy for life. He had a gift for telling stories that made everyone around him belly laugh and smile.

Jerry's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, the music he created, and the

memories he leaves behind. His family and friends will deeply miss his radiant joy and his beautiful smile.

Nimbus, your music, love, and light will continue to inspire us all until “we see our beloved again one day, they will greet us where the shores of the mighty crystal sea meet the great city gates of Zion.”
