Glendon “Popz” Doyle Arnold, Jr., 84, passed away on August 27, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by family and friends.
Glendon was born September 28, 1932, in Portia, Arkansas, to Glendon and Oma (Daly) Arnold. After graduating from West Plains High School, he joined the United States Navy, serving four years during the Korean Conflict, including service on the U.S.S. Yorktown. Upon completing his Navy service, Glendon went on to earn a degree in history and physical education from Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving 22 years and reaching the rank of Chief Warrant Officer (CW4) in the field of intelligence. Glendon served in Vietnam, Korea, and Germany. Among many military honors, commendations, and awards, his distinctions included the Legion of Merit, Army Commendation Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He retired from the Army in 1981 and went on to pursue careers in security service and private investigation. “Popz,” as he was affectionately known, loved to woodwork and spent more than 30 years devoted to his craftsmanship; his creations adorn the homes of many family and friends who have passed down his work to subsequent generations. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
