Gloria C. De La O

April 22, 1937 — June 5, 2014

Gloria (Yaya) Pena De La O went to be with the Lord at 12:41 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2014. She was born on April 22, 1937 in San Antonio Texas. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Rosa and Max Pena. She was married to Joe De La O who proceeded her in death on April 24, 2011. Surviving are her daughters Debbie Sing and husband Louis, Denise Elizondo and husband Oscar, Michelle Villarreal and husband Faustino, and son Joseph De La O, and daughter in law Mary Jo. Other survivors include 13 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Gloria graduated from Providence High School and was quite the social butterfly. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed trips to casino's in Louisiana, Las Vegas, and Eagle Pass. When the casino trips were not possible, Loteria and bingo at home with the kids would have to do. She often stayed busy sewing, and working her crossword puzzles, when she was not watching Lifetime Movie Channel until all hours of the nite. Yaya always had a smile on her face, and she loved to share that smile with anyone that would stop and talk to her. No one was a stranger to Yaya, she had time for everyone. She enjoyed following the grandkids at their sporting events, which took her all over the state at times. She was found at CYO, Littleleague, and High School events on a regular basis. She loved to help the umpires when they failed to get balls and strikes to her liking and was never afraid to offer them her glasses when they made bad calls on the bases. She was very often the life of the crowd. Yaya was a true kid at heart, and her two trips to Disney World were some of her fondest memories. Yaya also had a love of HER San Antonio SPURS, and was able to attend a few games in her later years of life. She was like a kid at the candy store, filled with excitement and awe. Yaya will be greatly missed by all who knew and met her. She will live on in our hearts and fond memories. Many thanks to the staff at Stone Oak Care center, as well as Alamo Hospice for there love, care, and support during her stay at the facility.
