Guizelle L Lehman

October 20, 1935 — May 26, 2024

Guizelle Lopez Lehman of San Antonio, Texas died peacefully on Sunday May 26, 2024. She was born on October 20, 1935, to Jesse M. Lopez Jr. and Margaret R. Lopez. She graduated from Jefferson High School where she met her husband, James Lehman. They were married in 1953.

Guizelle gave birth to their first child, Matthew, in 1959. Shortly after, they were offered an opportunity to acquire Kelly Music Store in Corpus Christi, Texas where they settled being new residents, and new business owners. During their busy lives in Corpus Christi, Guizelle gave birth to their daughter, Leslie, in 1961. Even though she was very busy with the music store, and with family commitments, Guizelle had a passion for breeding and showing Great Danes and other breeds for years. She was heavily involved with the Corpus Christi Kennel Club.

After some years in Corpus with The Texas Employment Commission (TEC), she decided that she wanted to further her education, so she returned to San Antonio, enrolled in UTSA, and earned her Bachelor of Arts in English.

With her degree in hand, she went back to the TEC and was hired. It also helped that she was fluent in Spanish, had an enormous personality, and wealth of knowledge. Out of all the positions she held in San Antonio, her favorite was working as a counselor for TEC.

She was always either watching movies, listening to music or reading books, which were interests she learned from her father. In her spare time, she volunteered as a docent at the Institute of Texan Cultures and shared her love of history. She touched so many lives with her compassion, personality, and love of life. She will be greatly missed.

Guizelle is survived by her son Matthew (Anne), a daughter Leslie Luciew (John), and grandchildren Matthew, Stephen, and Sarah. She is also survived by her sister, Jacqueline Lopez Epstein (Jonathan), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews that live in San Antonio, the U.S, and Mexico.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be scheduled at a later date.

It is the family's wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of a charitable donation to the Animal Defense League of Texas.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Better Life Solutions and to Trinity Hospice.
