Harlan (Harley) Reid Casper was born on April 4, 1948 in Grand Rapids MN and peacefully fell asleep in death on October 28, 2024 in Kerrville TX. He had been diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia earlier this year.
He was preceded in death by his father Russell Casper (1964), his mother Isabelle Casper (1999), his son Chad Casper (2009) and his sister Trudy (Casper) Simonson (2015). He is survived by two brothers Paul Casper and Lance Casper, both of Texas, his daughter Brooke (Casper) Grizzini of Colorado and and three nephews, Nathan, Andrew and Cameron, all of Texas. He also leaves behind a grandson Hunter and a grand-daughter Kate, both of Minnesota.
Soon after his father's death, at age 15, Harley took on the responsibility to help bring income into the family. He was employed at Lakeland Creamery, working four hours before school and four hours after school. During the summers and then after graduating High School in 1966 he worked full time at the creamery. Starting in 1969 he worked at Libbey-Crotteau Funeral home for four years. Starting in 1973 he owned an Amoco Service Station, which he had for five years. After that he worked at an auto parts store and then was in sales for many years. For 22 years he was privileged to caretake the Normandie Ranch near San Geronimo, TX. He worked for Walmart after moving to Kerrville in 2022.
He married Tara Esser in 1979 and they had two children, Brooke Marie Trudy in 1981 and Chad Michael James in 1984. The family lived in Texas from 1992 to 1994 and then Harley returned to Texas In 2000.
Harley loved the beautiful earth and the Creation on it, and raised horses all throughout his adult life. He had artistic abilities, was skilled at carpentry, and had musical talent. He enjoyed driving, reading, traveling and riding motorcycles. Harley studied the Bible in his youth and dedicated his life to Jehovah God at age 16. He was baptized on May 9, 1964. He enjoyed sharing the Bible's hope for the future with others. He leaves behind many friends who appreciated his kindness, thoughtfulness and sense of humor.
We all look forward to the time that the call by Christ Jesus goes out, as described in John 5:28, and all of those in the Memorial tombs are resurrected. This will allow the words of Revelation 21:4 to be fulfilled, “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be nor more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” Harley looked forward to the promise of living in a beautiful paradise earth (Luke 23:43), in fulfillment of God's original purpose for mankind.
There will be a memorial service held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 621 Ranchero Rd in Kerrville, TX on Sunday November 17, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. CST.
