Hector Garcia Rodriguez, 85, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 surrounded by loved ones succumbing to his battle with Alzheimer’s. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Guadalupe B. Rodriguez and their seven children and seven grandchildren. He was born in Sabinas, Hidalgo, N.L., Mexico on February 20, 1928 and later immigrated to the US seeking a better future for his wife and new family, ultimately becoming a US Citizen. Such desire to provide for his family led him to work in high rise construction as a foreman for most of his life. He took great satisfaction in having worked on the construction of Hemisfair Park and the Tower of Americas. While having little formal education, he took immense pride in being able to provide the opportunity for his children to achieve their respective educational and personal goals. In retirement, he derived pleasure in his wood carving, his grandchildren, and traveling with his wife and family to locations in Mexico he only read about as a child. While Alzheimer’s robbed him of most of his memories, to his dying day, he never forgot his one true love who was with him to the end, his beloved wife, Guadalupe B. Rodriguez. He will be missed but never forgotten.
