Helen Hogue Pollard Dawsey, born Saturday, January 23, 1932, went home to the Lord on Friday, May 29, 2015. She was born and reared in her beloved town of Newbern, Alabama to Joseph "Shine" Warren Pollard, Jr. and Helen Campbell Ayres. She spoke often of the wonderful times she had growing up in Newbern. Helen met T. Leo Dawsey, Jr., of Mobile, Alabama, while attending Auburn University. Helen and Leo married in 1951 and then lived in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi before moving to Houston and, later, Sugar Land, Texas, where they lived until Leo passed away. Helen then spent the remainder of her life with her children in Friendswood, Texas and, later, in San Antonio, Texas, where she passed from this life to the next with family by her side.
Helen is survived by her son Tom Dawsey and wife Diane; her daughter Sally Davis and husband Michael; her daughter Kim Hunter and husband Rick; 7 grandsons (Andrew, Thomas, Shawn, Collin, Cole, Mark, and Tyler); 1 granddaughter (Caroline); 6 great-grandchildren (Claire, Luke, Jonathan, Avery, Wren, and Addy); her brother Warren Pollard and wife Heather; 2 nieces (Rebecca and Elizabeth), and 2 nephews (Howard and Joe), and first cousins (Charles Sinclair and wife Barbara and Vernon Harden and wife Sharon). Helen was preceded in death in 2006 by her husband, T. Leo Dawsey, Jr., after 54 years of marriage, and by her brother Charles ("Charley") Pollard in 1963.
Helen was a kind and cheerful person who warmly embraced family, friends, and whoever walked through her life. She will be remembered for her cheerful disposition and ready laugh, her Alabama accent and manners, her love for Christ, and her devotion to her family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
