Herlinda (Linda) Sotelo went peacefully into the loving arms of our Savior on Thursday, December 19, 2024. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Linda was born on July 22, 1934, in Seguin, Texas, to Jose and Maria (Garza) Leal.
Linda was a woman of faith. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Benedict Catholic Church where she was a member of the choir, the Guadalupanas, and served as a lector during mass.
An eighteen-year cancer survivor, Linda lived life to the fullest and loved having fun, whether dancing with her beloved husband, singing with mariachi, or playing bingo with friends. She was an avid bowler who bowled over 200, won numerous league awards, and was a master cook who handmade her tortillas by the dozens. Linda loved spending time with her family, often singing and playing her guitar during holiday gatherings and enjoying summer family trips to the hill country and the coast. Her spirit and determination allowed her to embrace all of life and its challenges with open arms, and she even went back to earn her GED in her early fifties after only completing up to the 6th grade in her youth.
She is preceded in death by her cherished husband, Jose (Joe) Sotelo; her parents; and her siblings, Laurencio, Lucia, Guadalupe, Richard, Adolfo, Eugenio, and Jesse.
Survivors include her children, Mary Sotelo Kidd (David), Roland Sotelo (Denise), Sonia Lee (Richard), and Edward Sotelo (Pamela); her sister, Esther Toscano; grandchildren, Jena Richards, Allison Hamilton, Lauren Clay, Danielle Salazar, Roland Sotelo II, Leslie Lage, Justin Lage, Drew Sotelo, David Sotelo; great-grandchildren, Haleigh Richards, Bryan Richards, Garrett Richards, Rowen Hamilton, Bruce Hamilton, Luna Salazar, and Ariyana Lage, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Linda's family thanks La Casona PCH for their loving care of Linda these last few months. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that remembrances be made in Linda's name in the form of contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the American Cancer Society.
