James Alvin Kunschik passed away peacefully October 11, 2014, at age 71. He was preceded in death by his mother, Inez Gosch Kunschik, and father, Max Kunschik. He was born near Cistern, Texas, on September 14, 1943, and baptized September 30, 1943, in St. Cyril Methodius Catholic Church. From ages 6 to 8 he served as altar boy and was able to recite mass prayers in English, Latin, and Czech.
“Jim” held managerial positions at Sears and Dillards and later retired as a financial analyst for USAA. With his quick wit and outgoing personality, he captured the hearts and minds of others. He enjoyed doing for others and possessed many talents, including rebuilding cars, carpentry, and gardening.
He is survived by son Daniel Kunschik and wife Veronica; daughter Stephanie Castello and husband Mark; son Gregory Kunschik and wife Carlota Houseal; grandchildren Haleigh Kenney and husband Carlos, Whitnee, Danica, Viviana, Daniel, and Victoria Kunschik, and Hailey Castello; sisters Maxine Vana and JoAnn Goertz, nieces and nephews; and his dog Pita. Special thanks to neighbors for their loving care.
