Rev. James Edward Friend
November 25, 1949 - April 29, 2015
Rev. James Edward Friend was born November 25, 1949 in Sioux City, Iowa. The family moved to Wichita, Kansas by 1st grade. He struggled in school with severe dyslexia but never wanted to drop out. As he received his high school diploma, the principal told him he’d never be “nothing but a ditch-digger”.James went on to attend Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, Nebraska & also a Bible College in Moore, Oklahoma. He married Maudie (Connie) Marie Conwell in August of 1969. By 1971 they had moved to the border of Mexico to work with the Hispanics under the American Missionary Fellowship. He and Connie worked 43 years on the border and in San Antonio, Texas. He’s brought many to the Lord & trained many to be leaders. James & Connie began Camp Barnabas in San Antonio in the summer of 1997. James is survived by three sons; Daniel, Christopher, and Matthew, and seven grandchildren; Joseph, Jazmin, Jesamie, Madison, Austin, Alexzander, & September Raye, and one great-grandson; Jianni.
