James was born to Mary Sue and McDaniel Wharton in Lockney , Texas on May 29, 1920. He joined them in heaven on August 3, 2011 following a lengthy illness. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 65 years Doris , son James, and sister Annadell Quebe. James joined the Air Force after completing high school. He served in WWII and the Korean War. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star, and Air Medal for flying missions in B29 and B47 aircraft. He retired as a Major. A memorial service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, August 12 at 9:00 a.m. with full military honors. He will truly be missed!
