Janette Marie Johnson

Our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, Janette Marie Johnson finished her race and ran into the arms of her Savior on Monday, December 7, 2020. Leaving us all too soon, our greatest sorrow became her greatest joy as she most certainly heard the words “Well done my good and faithful servant”.

Born on February 18, 1965 in San Antonio, Texas to Gilbert Garcia and Gloria Villarreal, Janette was the eldest of 5 daughters and 2 sons. As the oldest in her large family, Janette was the little Momma who helped to care for her sib-lings and keep everyone in their place. Janette graduated John Jay High School in 1983 and went on to attend San Antonio College from 1983 -1985. At the age of 18 Janette met the love of her life, Billy Duane Johnson Jr., and as one would say, the rest is history. Billy and Janette went on to marry on July 20, 1991, and on March 5, 2000, welcomed into their arms Janette’s greatest joys, 3 beautiful boys: Jacob, Joshua and Jordan.

In 2001, Billy and Janette moved their young family from Alamo Heights to the Texas Hill Country where Billy designed and built their dream home, and as a family they would grow roots and create a community that they call family. Janette spent the boy’s school years entrenched in volunteering and earning the title of their biggest fan as she drove them to practices and cheered them on at every football game from Spring Branch Ranger football through the proud moment of standing by their sides on Senior night under the Friday night lights of Smithson Valley High School. Throughout the years and along the way Janette found beautiful friends and left her mark on all those who were blessed enough to know her. Always taking the time to stop, listen and give them her presence, she made everyone feel as though they were her priority.

All those who knew Janette knew that the most important things in her life were her relationship with Jesus, family, friends and serving others. The Johnson’s found their way to Riverside Community Church where Janette could be found with her hands raised, clapping and worshipping each Sunday morning. The overflow of her faith was displayed in how she loved the community and all those that crossed her path. Janette served as the Hope Center and Food Pantry Director of Spring Branch, Texas for 2.5 years. Assuring that those in the community had what they needed, and that each person had an encounter with Jesus, was Janette’s calling and the window into her heart. Janette awakened each day to fill herself first, leaving behind a legacy of daily thoughts and prayers she scribed in her journals. Janette’s last journal entry is a picture of the life she lived. Sensing sadness in the season, she asked the Lord for a tangible way that she could bless someone during this Christmas season,
“Since we have been blessed, we want to bless someone else”. The Lord must have been smiling knowing his daughter would soon give the ultimate gift. Janette had chosen to be an organ donor and even in her passing she continued to give of herself by ensuring that her final gift was the gift of life.

Her father, Gilbert Garcia, and in-laws Billy and Magdelen Johnson precede Janette in death. She is survived by her adoring husband, Billy Duane Johnson Jr., three sons: Jacob, Joshua and Jordan, mother: Gloria Villarreal, siblings: Lisa Stratton, Sandra Hughes (Mark), Aurora Baltazar, Gilbert "Beau" Garcia, David Garcia (Wendy) and Patricia De La Rosa (Michael), Sister-in-Law and Brother-in-Law: Michael and Becky Carman, Brother-in-Law: Perry Johnson along with numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends.
