Joan De Louis

August 5, 1936 — October 15, 2023

Joan DeLouis, born August 5, 1936, passed into the loving arms of her heavenly father on Sunday, October 15, 2023 in San Antonio, TX.

Joan's extraordinary life began humbly on a farm in Fredericksburg, where her father passed away when she was just 4, and her mother worked tirelessly to raise 10 children on sparse means. Joan and her siblings walked miles to school. It was a path that crossed the Pedernales River, which meant her brothers had to carry her and her younger siblings on their shoulders to get across. She put cardboard in her shoes to cover the holes the long trek wore into them and to cushion her feet. The hardships of her youth lit the fire of determination that would drive her to success throughout her life.

Joan excelled in everything she did, beginning in high school, where she was the head cheerleader, Salutatorian, and selected to the All-State basketball team. She married her soulmate, Nick DeLouis, who was in the military. They traveled to Germany, Italy, Holland, and the UK, living in England for 3 years. Nick's career in the military also afforded them the opportunity to visit and live in many places here in the United States. Her photographic memory helped her find success in any path she chose. She became lead interior designer for Montgomery Ward before finding her niche in real estate, where she achieved a level of success very few attain. For many years, Joan was the number 1 agent for the city of San Antonio. She received awards and was frequently interviewed by newspapers and magazines. Her generous and kind spirit led her to help many others as well. She was an amazing cook, the kind who cooked with so much love you could taste it in her food.

At the heart of Joan's life was her family, whom she loved, supported, and uplifted. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ada and Bodo Wisian, 8 of her siblings, and her grandson, Jason Hahn. She leaves behind the love of her life, Nickolas DeLouis, her cherished daughter, Tammy Ingebretson, twin sister Jo Ann "Coppi" Garrett, granddaughter Amanda Ingebretson, grandson Jared Ingebretson and his wife Kameron, granddaughter-in-law Rose Hahn, greatgrandchildren Tyler Hahn and Jaxon and Liam Ingebretson, and many nieces and nephews. She loved her dog, Chopper. Joan will be deeply missed but lives on in our hearts.
