Joe Aguilar

Joe R. Nene Aguilar was born on December 22, 1923 in San Antonio, Texas. He passed away on April 11, 2012. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Isabel, his parents, his four siblings, and many nieces and nephews. He was drafted into the Army from Tech High School after the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He proudly served our country in Company B, 785 Tank Division in the Pacific Theater. Thanks to State Senator Carlos Uresti, State Representative Robert Puente, and Congressman Charlie Gonzalez, on November 12, 2001, he finally received his high school diploma, along with many other veterans of foreign wars. He was also very proud to be a Free Mason and had a long membership at the Nat M. Washer Lodge in San Antonio, Texas. He worked as a painter for Kelly AFB for 35 years and retired in 1980 when he became a grandfather. He is survived by his daughters Maricela Aguilar, Yolanda Aguilar, Maria Isabel Aguilar, Graciela A. Glenn, son in law Ernie L. Glenn, grandson Giancarlo A. Glenn, granddaughter Maritza A. Glenn, Nadar and Roza Shahzavari, grandaughter Sara Shahzavari, and grandson Yasha Shahzavari. He is also survived by many family and good friends. His devotion to his family and his unique sense of humor will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to the Salvation Army as he often remembers being surprised with a cup of coffee and a donut during the calm of battle while stationed in the Pacific during World War II. A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the St. Josephs Chapel at 10:00 a.m. located at the Oblates Fathers Grotto 5712 Blanco Road, San Antonio,Texas 78216 with a reception following at the Oblate Renewal Center.
