John T. Chapman

July 19, 1944 — February 13, 2020

John Taylor Chapman, 75, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2020. He was born on July 19, 1944 in Pampa, Texas to Thomas and Janice Chapman. He was a 1963 graduate of Highlands High school.
John is survived by his loving wife, Paula, of 54 years, and their three children and spouses: Dawn Rayner (David), Steve Chapman (Sandy) and Darrell Chapman (Colleen.) Known as Papa by his grandkids, he will be dearly missed by his 5 granddaughters: Savanaha Chapman, Taylor, Bailey, and Delaney Rayner, and Catherine Chapman, as well as, 4 grandsons: Garrett Haas, Tristan Chapman, John Taylor Chapman and Aaron Chapman. His 4 great grandchildren Faith and Easton Haas, Colter Chapman and Peyton Nichols brought him intense joy. John is also survived by his only sibling, Mark Chapman.
He enjoyed his work with design, testing, safety and quality control in the aviation industry. John was especially proud of his 29-year career with The Dee Howard Company. In addition, he made several lifelong friends along the while working or consulting for Business Aircraft, Swearingen Aircraft, Gore Designs and Schwartz Engineering. He earned a reputation of a very strong and impressive work ethic.
Over the years, John loved attending Spurs games and watching the Dallas Cowboys. All of John’s hobbies revolved around his family. When his children were young, he enjoyed a lot of time spent at the little league fields. He served the Perrin Beitel little league community in a variety of volunteer jobs. He was especially proud of his boat; many fun weekends were spent on the lake with his family. Annual summer camping trips to Garner State Park are also memories his family will always cherish. He enjoyed showering his grandkids with small special gifts. Papa was well known for his overwhelming love and commitment to his family.
In retirement, John enjoyed tending to Skeeter, his pet bird, his aquarium, and researching his family genealogy.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church, 1602 Thousand Oaks Dr., on Friday, February 28th at 11:00.
