Jose Herrera

July 22, 1946 — July 7, 2016

Jose “Joe” Herrera, 69, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas in the presence of loved ones. He was born on July 22, 1946 to Henry Sr. and Elvira (San Miguel) Herrera in San Antonio, Texas. Following attendance at Burbank High School, he served four years active duty in the United States Navy. Thereafter, he worked for Union Pacific and worked his remaining years as a civil service worker and welder at Lackland Air Force Base. Joe was a loving father, husband, grandfather, coach, fisherman, and friend to all. He was the most genuine human being you could ever meet, and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Sr. and Elvira (San Miguel) Herrera and three brothers: Henry II, Gene, and Arthur.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mildred Herrera; his two daughters and son-in-law’s, Jodi (Gustavo) Villegas and Janis (Gabriel) Sainz; one grandchild, Gustavo; one brother Lionel; three sisters Annette, Amalia, and Viola; and many loving friends and extended family.

A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 pm, Friday, July 22, 2016 at City Church Video Café, 9431 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78250. Burial service will be held at 9:30 am, Monday, July 25, 2016 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209.
