Jose Luis Maya Sr. was embraced by the welcoming hands of God on July 21, 2022, at the age of 70. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
Jose was born on May 23, 1952, to his parents Onesimo Maya and Rebeca Morales. At the age of 21, Jose married Alejandra Macias on June 2, 1973. Together, they created a beautiful family of six, whom he loved dearly.
Along with being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Jose was also a dedicated employee of SWISD for over 30 years. Outside of his employment, he had a wide array of interests. Jose loved to do handy work alongside his sons, enjoyed family gatherings, and took pleasure in traveling vast distances to Chicago and Mexico City. More importantly, Jose frequently spoke adoringly of his children and was a faithful supporter of their accomplishments.
Jose Luis Maya Sr. lived an extraordinary life and influenced many during his days on Earth. He will be sincerely missed by his family and friends. Jose is survived by his wife, Alejandra Macias Maya; their children Judith Villanueva (Raul), Jose Luis Maya Jr. (Nicole), Octavio Maya (Monica), Antonio Maya (Janice), and Alejandro Maya (Raul); 19 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Javier Maya, and his parents Onesimo Maya and Rebeca Morales.
Viewing services will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary beginning at 6:30 PM on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Puente & Sons Funeral Chapel located at 3520 South Flores St., San Antonio, TX 78204.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 29, 2022, at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church located at 4415 South Flores St., San Antonio, TX 78214. No procession will be held.
The funeral service will be followed by a lunch at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church’s Hall from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
